Good news - buzzards reprieved

The proposal to allow gamekeepers to destroy buzzards' nests to protect commercially bed pheasants has now been abandoned - yet another Government U-turn.

It was a manifestly stupid idea, of course. It was put forward by Richard Benyon, the Minister for Wildlife (I haddn't realized there was such an office). Ironicaly, Benyon is a millionaire landowner who delights in shooting, hence his hostility to buzzards.
