Britain getting more like Greece

We're currently in Greece. There is a heatwave at present, in contrast to Britain, which is wet and cold. But, apart from that, Britain is getting more like Greece, according to my wife, who is Greek. The latest example is the shaming of the London Met. We are not surprised to find that tabloid journalists have been hacking phones but we are shocked by the revelation that a substantial number of policemen, including those at the very top.

Still, at least in Britain we are still able to be shocked. In Greece things are different. Some time ago an acquaintance reported, quite casually, that they had bribed a local government official. Bribery does occur in Britain, of course, but if one did it one would keep quiet about it.
