BBC programme on the placebo

Yesterday BBC Radio 4 broadcast the first of a two-part series on the placebo effect. Not much there that I didn't know, but still worth listening to. One study I had not heard of before concerned patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy who had had electrodes implanted to stimulate the heart muscle. This improved their condition, but it also worked when the electrodes were switched off without the patients' knowledge.

I shall listen to Part 2.
