Misquoting Jesus, by Bart D. Ehrman

Ehrman is a New Testament scholar who started as a biblical literalist but became convinced that the books of the New Testament are thoroughly human documents. In this readable book he describes his own progress in understanding and presents a survey of how our knowledge of the text has developed from the earliest years of the Christian era to our own time. The book is aimed at non-specialists and Ehrman seems to have had in mind readers, especially in the USA, who naively assume that they have direct access to “God’s word". Read the review.
