Chimpanzee art

In my last post I mentioned John Carey's book What Good Are The Arts?. In today's Independent there is a piece about the paintings by the chimpanzee Congo, done in the 1950s. His work has now sold for £14,000. Carey holds that art is anything that anyone thinks is art; Congo's work was considered as such by Congo himself and presumably by whoever bought it, so art it is.
