The sudden and unexpected death of Miles Kington is very sad. His piece in The Independent was the first thing I looked at every day. I never ceased to be amazed at his ability to go on producing stuff as good as this on a daily basis, day in, day out, literally until the day he died. I particularly enjoyed the United Deities and also the occasional -- too rare -- Shakespearean pastiches. Many of his readers must feel they've lost a personal friend, even if they never met him.
