Cancer and the 'fighting spirit'

More evidence that having a 'fighting spirit' does not improve the outcome in cancer, according to a study in the European Journal of Cancer, cited in the current issue of the BMJ (16 April, 2005, p. 865). The psychological response to a diagnosis of breast cancer was not related to the outcome 10 years later, although the outlook was worse for women with high initial scores for helplessness or hopelessness.
